The Monthly Female NORMAL

Early on in our relationship my boyfriend (now husband) and I were talking one morning. It was one of those PMS mornings where I was feeling moody. I probably started into some whiney monologue. Since it was the first time he’d seen me like this, his face showed confusion and concern.

I stopped whatever I was talking about and flipped a switch, “Hey, I’m moody. It’s near my special time of the month. This is NORMAL.”

He was silent for pretty much the rest of the day.

Flash forward (weeks or months). The next time I was a little grouchy, he interrupted me and asked timidly, “Is it your NORMAL time?”

“WHAAAT?!!!!!!!”

Then he recalls the time when I explained my monthly moodiness. It sounds like this: “THIS IS NORMAL,” in a dragon breathing, monster voice like from Ghost Busters or something. I had red glowing eyes and my head was spinning in his recollection.

I’m so thankful to have someone who will make fun of me when I’m being annoying.

Do you have a code for that time? My mom, sister and I used the Korean word for it, growing up, so it was a secret from my dad.

Linking up with The Grits Blog, Eat, Drink & Be Mary for the Little Friday link up!

 Little Friday

Also linking up for Thankful Thursdays with Alisia of Boarding Together.

  • Thank goodness there is no biological way for us to both be on our cycles together! Yes, I love men. 🙂

  • Code language. It’s worked for women for centuries! I love having a “secret” language with my mom! I’m gonna have to do that with our kids too!!!

  • OMG this made me laugh out loud!! Chris always knows when it’s my time of the month because all I want is Fro-yo and then cry when I don’t get it.

    • Bahahaha yes, fro-yo crying. Love it! So cute. Men can be wonderful, yes?

  • Hahaha oh yes. I honestly don’t remember what we called it.. with pregnancy and now breastfeeding, I had honestly almost forgotten this happens! Super.

    • I’m right there with you! What’s to come!!! lol! I’m imagining perfectly balanced hormones and a mild disposition. 😉

  • OMG I can so relate. My boyfriend knows exactly when it’s my time of month – when I’m super grouchy, but he’s so sweet that this is the time that he lets me off the hook with all of my outbursts. He’ll usually make a joke out of it, which automatically makes me burst out in laughter – best, right?!

    • I just want someone to make fun of me all the time. 🙂 Totally. How do guys just let us get away with that stuff? Genetic magic!

  • Hahah this is amazing!

  • I don’t use code words for it. My husband has to hear every little detail. “I need more sleep. It’s science.” “Craving chocolate is totally normal.” “I’m sensitive right now, you don’t want to piss me off.”

    • I like the, “it’s science,” statement. Very smart! lol. I’m going to borrow it. Ah, I just don’t know if mine will every really understand…but at least he’s funny! 🙂

  • This is great! I’m the exact same way, I basically turn into a small human being of terror when its my time of month. Let’s just say my boyfriend knows when its time to stay far, far away!

    • What ever happened to the RED TENT anyhow? 🙂 I wonder what it’s going to be like after pregnancy???! AAAHAHAHAHH! At least you’re just a small being of terror! 🙂

  • Alisia

haha I know what you mean, he calls it my “b*itchy time” and he always follows it up with “I need to be very careful what I say and how I say it”. I’m hosting my first linkup today all about Thankful Thursday, i would appreciate it if you linked it.

    • Congrats on your first linkup! Guys are so great at “being careful.” lol

  • Haha! I love this! I don’t really have a code word. I think it’s just super obvious when I’m moody and no explanation is needed. 😉

    • LOL It was funny being on a Navy ship full of guys and just 4 girls when it was one of us girls’ time. It was probably super obvious to all the men!

  • Krista Williams

That is too funny! I just can’t believe sweet little you would have red glowing demon eyes! And around our house we call it Shark Week. (There was a funny picture goin around the web a couple years back explaining how a shark’s brain and female anatomy were the same shape.)

    • Bhahaha. Shark Week is awesome. Chris will LOVE that! Fascinating, our brains, huh?
